ESOL Tutor

Hours: 13-32 hours per week, Term-time only (dependant on how many classes an applicant can teach.)

Class 1 Mon/Weds (10:00-14:00 in Shefford), Class 2 Tues/Thurs (10:00-14:00 in Shefford) and Class 3 Friday (9:30-12:30 in Bedford), plus preparation and meeting hours worked flexibly.

We would be open to applicants who would like to teach 1 or 2 of the above classes as opposed to three. Please state in your application if this is your preference.

Terms: Term time only contract

Salary: £26,000 – £27,664 pro rata (£12.50 – £13.30 per hour) plus holiday pay

Location: Bedfordshire

Our ESOL service was established in 2017 and now runs 5 days per week and offers English lessons for resettled refugees and an English Club with an emphasis on learning skills for integration into UK society. We are a growing team of ESOL tutors and creche teams providing training to help refugees and their families to resettle in Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.

About The Role:

The ESOL Tutor teaches, plans, delivers and assesses learners of English as a second language. The tutor is involved in curriculum development and part of an expanding ESOL Team and service at King’s Arms Project. Group classes are provided to resettled adults and run at Pre-Entry, Beginner, Elementary and Pre-Intermediate Levels at our teaching locations in Shefford and Bedford.

There is potential for this role to teaching one, two or three classes based on service need and candidate availability.

About The Role:

This post serves to deliver high quality ESOL teaching, including planning, delivery, assessment and review, alongside curriculum development. The community & in-home ESOL tutor will teach a combination of short and long-term 1:1/1:2/1:3 sessions in client’s homes and in the community. These classes serve learners who are unable to attend group classes due to medical conditions, pregnancy or other barriers. The tutor will deliver classes from Pre-Entry to Elementary, with the majority of the students being Pre-Entry and Beginner, some of whom are illiterate in their own first language.

Kids United Holiday Club Assistant

Hourly rate: £11.44

Terms: Zero Hours Contract

Availability: During school holidays – each half term and the first week of the summer holidays

Location: Bedford

Start date: From February 2025

Kids United is the holiday club run by the ESOL team to support English and integration for resettled children. It is run during each half-term and the first week of the summer holidays.

We are seeking a bank of Assistants to support Team Leaders, working with children who range from 5 years to 11 years of age.

Ideally, you will have experience of working with children and you can commit to a full year of sessions (every half-term and the first week of summer holidays).

Two hours of training will be provided the week before starting.

Refugee and Migrant Services Caseworker (x3)

Terms: Fixed Term (One Year)
Hours: 40 hours per week
Salary: £27,000 per annum

About The Role

The Refugee & Migrant Services Caseworker will join the Refugee & Migrant Services Support Team, who work alongside our ESOL team and volunteers to meet clients’ needs as directed by the R&MS Team Leader.  The post is based at our offices in Bedford but will involve some local travel to deliver support and home appointments.  Our team delivers a number of services, including:

  • Welcoming and providing holistic integration support to resettled refugee families, empowering them to live independently with less support as time goes on.
  • Providing vulnerable migrants with high quality information and advice, empowering them to make well-informed choices.
  • Supporting clients through advocacy to access key services including healthcare, education and wellbeing services.

 

The ideal candidate will be adaptable, hard-working and able to provide holistic support to a diverse caseload of people. You will be part of an experienced, compassionate, and highly motivated team with a strong knowledge of the issues facing refugees, those seeking asylum and vulnerable migrants.
